While the quantitaive impact the figure of ... 42 %...brings to my mind is huge, nevertheless i would say the qualitative impact that a "bad boss" has on an individual is even bigger. infact many a times the damage is not even measurable!! the damage that gets inflicted on a persons self confidence, motivation level, personality, cannot even be measured except that it just "shows".
However i have come to believe ( even thou i recognise that its a cynical view! ) that in organisations " bad bosses" continue to be bad and even thrive because its by design that they are there in that position. They are not aberations in the system but are part of the design. Because if they were an aberation in the system, you wont have reports pointing out that ... it pays to be bad tempered boss! such bosses are higher on delivery parameter... ( and i have read such a report based on study done in the us!! )
